The heading Basic settings in the category Control Panel allows you to modify the main display settings and the promotion of your blog.
The first part of the heading "Basic settings" allows you to modify the descriptive information of your blog which you provided along with the creation of your blog.
To modify the title and description of your weblog, enter a new title and description in all corresponding fields. You can also add keywords to describe your weblog. These keywords will be used for your weblog's referral.
Click on the [Update Information] button to save your changes.
Error messages :
- This field is required: Your weblog title must be entered to validate your modifications.
The second part of the page proposes you to modify your weblog display settings:
- Amount of posts displayed on the home page : It determines the number of posts displayed on your weblog home page. You can enter a number and change the default number:
- 3 last posts : the last 3 posts are displayed depending on the time period hat lays between the first post and the last post. This setting guarantees that your home page will never be empty.
- 3 last days : posts published within the last 3 days are displayed on your home page.
- Date format : select the date format that you like best.
- Time format : select the time format that you like best.
- Language of your blog : Your weblog descriptive elements (item titles in the sidebar, for example) will be translated into the language you specified upon creation of your weblog. If the translation is not available in the selected language, English will be the language by default.
Click on the [Update Information] button to save your changes.
The third part of this page allows you to change the promotion settings of your posts:
- Submit my weblog to your portal when updated: if you want your weblog to appear in the "Recently updated blogs" category, check off "yes". This option is perfect to enhance the visibility of your blog for those who visit blogspirit.com.
- Submit my weblog to search engines and directories: : If you activate this option, update information of your weblog will be sent to weblogs, search engines and directories. If you want to be referred by these search engines, choose the "yes" option.
Click on the [Update Information] button to save your changes.
The fourth part of this page offers you to modify the compression level of the pictures you want to insert in your posts. The higher the compression level, the lower the quality of your picture. Additionally, fewer disc space is used for the file (it thus means that the chosen disc space regarding your subscription will last longer). If you Inserting_an_image_in_a_post, there will always be a chosen standard compression level. However, you can modify this parameter with each insertion of a new picture.
In order to modify the standard compression level, type in a new value between 1 and 100 and click on the "Update information" button in order to save your changes.
The last part of this page will allow you to change the archives settings of your posts. Archives allow you to classify your posts by category and calendar, which makes it easier to access them on your weblog. To change archive settings, click on heading "Archives" located in the "Control Panel" category.
- Archive Frequency of your posts : depending on the number of posts written each day, week or month, choose one of the two existing archive options :
- Monthly : Every month, a page is created and gathers all posts published between the first and the last day of the month.
- Weekly : Every week, a page is created and gathers all posts published between Monday and Sunday. This option suits more specifically to bloggers who write a lot of posts per week.
Links to each archive are sorted in the "Archives" item and are displayed in one of your two weblog sidebars. To change your "Archives" item position in your sidebars (or to remove this item), go to the category "Design" and click on the "Sidebar contents" heading.
