The latest firmware update for the Nokia N97 portable cellphone-computer will...

The latest firmware update for the Nokia N97 portable cellphone-computer will be available for download on July 4th, 2009. On paper, Nokia’s new flagship N97 ticks every box on our smartphone wishlist. There’s a whopping great touchscreen, a proper keyboard, top notch camera and whizzy smartphone software just itching to be fed 3rd party apps and games. So why so few stars? Because the N97 has a few dirty secrets. Sure, the N97’s design is cutting edge. The flip-out keyboard is a triumph, being both comfy on a tabletop and while cradled in the hand, as well as sliding out of sight without adding too much bulk to the phone. But get under the skin of the N97 and you’ll find a few quirks. For a start, the N97’s 3.5-inch touchscreen display is a resistive one, which means it takes more than a light brush with a finger to see results. Nokia bundles a stylus with the N97 to help avoid the problem, but it’s a fudge. In a world of iPhones, which use a capacitive touchscreen for fast response, we don’t want to be fishing around for a plastic screen-poker.

If you have yet to update your firmware I suggest you do not hesitate for much longer. The new firmwares from software version 20.0.12 increased the CPU Clock rate to 434Mhz. This speeds up the user interface giving you quick access to menu's, functions, facilities and options and solved many bug issues. Prior to v20.0.12 update, the CPU rate was 369Mhz. Thats a whopping 65MHz increase!! XD

With this update the CPU frequency of the 5800XM is now the same as of N97!! :P

For the full release log from nokia on the 5800 XpressMusic phone - Specifications

REY!

Ever since I did some work experience on a New Media mag and wrote up a piece on popular blogs which found engadget.com to be the most popular blog on the whole wide web I have been entirely addicted to it. I just love shiny pieces of gadgetry and this all-ancompassing technology blog is the essential gadget nerd's number 1 must-read destination.

Anyway, linked from there I found the following post about Nokia phones coming bundled with Stalin themed wallpapers in Russia. Fucking ace. Imagine that, combining the world's favourite mobile phone company with everybody's favourite dead Communist dictator...

Read all about it here:

Stalin Nokias

In the next 18 months, WorldMate ad-funded service is expected to reach over 10 million users, most of them business professionals, according to Nadav Gur, MobiMate's CEO.

WorldMate Free Edition will include a bundle of travel services including world clocks, weather forecasts, currency exchange rates and more. The application will include advertising in the form of "interstitials" shown during idle-time, for instance when the application is first loaded or when data updates occur.

These ads will also enable users to respond immediately to advertisers' messages, for instance by browsing to an advertiser's WAP-site or by placing a call to its service line. Advertisements are served on-line using Amobee Media System technology and are rotated over time, just like banners or interstitials in a web-site.

WorldMate Free Edition was demonstrated at the Mobile Application Summit, hosted by Nokia. It will initially support Nokia S60 devices and will be distributed online, for free, to millions of S60-based Nokia device users.

Israel Digital Blog Ads – SQL Optimization Tools | Mobile Web Testing | Firewall Security
